Why give?

  • Empower Our Keiki to Grow Their Own Food

Your donation supports our youth educational programs, helping to cultivate a generation of informed, self-reliant individuals committed to healthy eating and sustainable living.

Our program teaches our kēiki how to grow their own food and develop a love for eating it. By involving children in the process of growing and nurturing plants, they are more likely to try and enjoy the fruits and vegetables they grow themselves.

Our programs, starting from elementary through high school, introduce students to simple growing systems, instill responsibility, and demonstrate the joy of cultivating food. As they progress, students learn advanced growing techniques, understand food security, and explore small-scale farming as a business. They gain hands-on experience in building greenhouses, managing systems, and distributing food, equipping them with skills to earn income and lead within their communities.

  • Create Community U-Pick Farms and Educational Huts

We're establishing neighborhood U-Pick farms and educational spaces that offer both fresh produce and hands-on learning opportunities—not just for hydroponics, but for all aspects of the food we consume. These community farms enhance local food access by being situated right in your neighborhood, allowing residents to engage directly with the food they eat and the farmers who grow it.

By integrating educational programs and diverse farming activities, we aim to uplift our local farmers, providing them with multiple avenues for income generation. This includes opportunities like hosting workshops, selling produce directly to the community, and participating in local markets. Our goal is to ensure that farmers are prosperous, enabling them to consistently supply fresh, affordable food to our neighborhoods.

  • Support Classes in Farming, Cooking & Nutrition

Your donation fuels accessible education in hydroponics, soil farming, culinary skills, and healthy eating. These programs are open to members who need them, helping individuals and families eat healthy meals while saving money. By teaching our community how to grow, make, raise, or catch their own food and transform it into delicious meals, we promote food independence and economic savings.

  • Boomerang Grant Program

Donations help fund The Boomerang Grant Program, it's an investment in our members' potential to grow and thrive. We provide equipment, materials, building support, and assistance to launch or expand their growing projects. In return, members agree to repay the value of the support through the sale or distribution of their produce or handmade goods.

This program is designed for community members who have demonstrated dedication by volunteering with Hydroponic Hut. As each member fulfills their commitment and pays back the grant, the support is extended to the next grower, creating a continuous cycle of empowerment and community growth.

  • Build Industrial Teaching Kitchen

Your donation helps construct fully equipped industrial kitchens to add to the You-Pick farms.  These spaces will allow for an array of cooking classes, food business training, and community meal preparation. This space empowers community members to transform their culinary skills into not only household meals, but also economic opportunities, teaching them how to prepare food for sale and fostering food independence.

This hands-on education bridges the gap between food access and food enjoyment, helping individuals—especially those with limited culinary experience—realize that healthy meals can be both affordable and flavorful. Through these initiatives, we foster healthier eating habits and greater food independence across our community.

  • Build Greenhouses and Curbside Honor Stands

Your support helps us construct small and large greenhouses, as well as curbside honor stands, empowering community members to grow food at home, support their families year-round, and engage in micro-enterprises.

Small greenhouses enable families to cultivate fresh produce, reducing grocery expenses and enhancing food security. Curbside stands provide a platform for selling or sharing homegrown or homemade goods, fostering entrepreneurship at the grassroots level. Larger community greenhouses offer space for collective farming efforts, education and connection.
